We recently took Batam Fast Ferry for a short gateaway. Besides Malaysia, Batam is also one of the easiest options for a quick escape from Singapore. And the last time we took ferry to Batam was more than 10 years ago! So we are quite surprised at how smooth the whole journey was, from booking all the way to boarding. Since we were heading to Sekupang Terminal, the journey took about 45 minutes to an hour.
My Experience With Batam Fast Ferry
Booking Process
Batam Fast Ferry is one of the longest-serving ferry operators and has the most frequent ferry schedules between Singapore and Batam.
The booking process was straightforward, you can do it online or via their app. I recommend using the app, as you can easily track your purchase, and they also provide e-boarding passes. This means there’s no need to print anything or queue for a boarding pass.

If you’re booking, you can use my promo code BFXQIQI to get $3 discounts (valid till 15 Sept 2026).
Boarding Experience
Our departure terminal was HarbourFront Centre. Instead of parking at HarbourFront Tower which can get quite full during school holidays, we parked at Seah Im Car Park instead.
It’s just across the road, so it’s still very convenient.
We actually arrived about 2 hours before departure, but honestly, arriving 60 minutes before is sufficient, unless you want to have breakfast before boarding. Just make sure you have your passport and tickets ready.
You can also check in your luggage if needed, each passenger is allowed up to 20kg of checked baggage. Both check in luggage and immigration was smooth and fast, it’s like passing through the airport custom.

Once we passed immigration, we waited at the waiting area. The screen will show when it’s time to board and which berth your ferry is at, so just follow the signs after passing through the boarding gate.

Ferry Ride Experience
Honestly, my last ferry ride was more than 10 years ago, so I couldn’t really remember what the cabin looked like. I was expecting it to be quite cramped and felt a bit anxious since it’s free seating. But I realised, I worried for nothing. The seating arrangement and the space between seats were actually quite comfortable and most importantly the ferry was clean!
We also went up to the upper deck to check it out. It’s a good option if you prefer a quieter space, as there are fewer seats so it’s less noisy and more suitable for those who tend to get seasick, but first come first serve. If you prefer to alight faster, I suggest taking the lower deck instead.

You can also sit at the outdoor area on the upper deck if you prefer to enjoy the sea breeze!

One thing we really liked is that there are charging ports at every seat which is honestly very important these days since most of us can’t go without our phones. Some window seats even come with 3-pin plugs, so you can use your own charger if you have brought one along.
There is also complimentary mineral water provided for all passengers.

Batam Fast VIP Cabin
If you really want a more private space especially when travelling with a big family or kids, Batam Fast Ferry has VIP and Business Class cabins. When my hubby asked if it was a special room with assigned seats, I told him no, it’s more like a KTV room. Hahaha.. It really does look like one, and because of this setup, the kids can move around freely inside. Of course, priority boarding is also one of the perks.

For VIP and Business Class cabins, you can’t book them online. You will need to email them ([email protected]) at least 2 weeks in advance, and the pricing depends on the season and the number of passengers. So it’s best to contact them directly for detailed pricing.
