A Florida resident is accused of scamming a Wells Fargo customer out of $20,000 by posing as a bank official.

Kevon Christopher-Ky’Marley Shaw is accused of repeatedly calling the victim in September of 2025 and identifying himself as “Steven Fenton” from Wells Fargo’s fraud department, reports Tamarac Talk.

Police say Shaw provided the victim’s correct account details, convincing him that his bank funds were at risk of theft.

The 23-year-old allegedly told the victim that to protect his money in the account he had to withdraw $20,000 in cash and then hand the cash over to a courier. The victim withdrew the $20,000 from a Wells Fargo branch on North Dixie Highway in Fort Lauderdale and handed it off to the courier who arrived at his home.

Shaw allegedly sought to steal even more funds from the victim and called him dozens of more times over several days. Becoming suspicious, the victim contacted law enforcement, which launched an investigation.

Detectives set up an operation to catch the scammer. They had the victim arrange another cash handoff and surveilled the occurrence.

Using subpoenas and digital records, including Uber transaction data, phone numbers and financial account activity, investigators allegedly linked the scheme to Shaw, who was arrested on March 27th.

He is out on bail after posting a $30,000 bond.
