Meta Glasses vs. Samsung Galaxy Glasses: I wouldn’t wait for Samsung unless you need Gemini

I’ve spent weeks trying to decide between Meta Glasses and Samsung Galaxy Glasses, and I know many of you are in the same position. You’ve watched the demos, sifted through the leaks, and now you’re choosing between two very different pairs of AI glasses. Both focus on audio instead of a display, and both aim to stay on your face all day.

Meta Glasses came to market earlier, leading with a camera you can talk to and a $299 sticker, which feels fair once you see what Even Realities and XREAL charge for their latest eyewear. Galaxy Glasses are Samsung’s entry into the category, built with Google and unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked in London. Gemini powers the experience, so you can place a coffee order without touching your phone. Neither pair is a bad choice, so let me help you figure out which one fits your life.

    Quick verdict

Go with Meta Glasses if you want smart glasses today, the cheapest way in, and a wide selection of frames and prescription options. Reach for Samsung Galaxy Glasses when you live inside Android and a Galaxy watch or ring, and you want an assistant that can act on your behalf rather than answer trivia. One is available today for less money, the other is a fall bet on deeper AI.

    Availability and price right now

One pair is available to order today while the other is still a promise.

Meta Glasses went on sale in June 2026 from $299 for the Adventurer and Fury, with the Kylie Jenner Starfire edition at $399, and you can walk into a store to try them on.

Samsung has committed to a fall 2026 launch window, with no firm release date or price, which drove me a little up the wall during the keynote. Most estimates place Samsung Galaxy Glasses between $400 and $600, so I don’t expect Samsung to undercut Meta’s $299 starting price.

What the AI can do for you

Both can hold a conversation, but they have quite different ambitions.

Meta AI, powered by Muse Spark, handles familiar jobs like answering questions, reading messages, and describing whatever the camera sees. Samsung aims much higher with Gemini.

During the Galaxy Unpacked demo, a presenter asked the glasses to order her usual coffee, and Gemini opened DoorDash on the paired phone, navigated the app, filled in the order, and left it ready for confirmation.

Meta cannot automate multi-app tasks like that today. If Samsung delivers the same experience outside the keynote, Galaxy Glasses become the stronger pick for anyone who wants an assistant that gets things done instead of just talking back.

Battery you can trust for a full day

Samsung rates Galaxy Glasses for up to nine hours on a single charge, while the case adds around seven full charges. If real-world use reaches those figures, the setup gives me a multi-day buffer I’d love to take on my next Barcelona trip. I won’t need to pull out my phone in Gothic Quarter, where I always feel one step away from losing it.

Meta rates its glasses for more than eight hours, and the charging case adds around 40 hours of extra power. Video recording remains the weak point, as it can drain both pairs faster than headline figures suggest. On paper, Samsung leads in battery life and case capacity, making Galaxy Glasses the better pick for long stretches away from a charger.

Ecosystem lock-in and who you already are

The right pick here depends less on the glasses and more on the phone in your pocket. Samsung Galaxy Glasses send notes to Samsung Notes, add events to your calendar, and connect with a Galaxy watch or Galaxy ring, giving Galaxy users a tighter workflow than Meta can offer. Meta routes features through its own app, which creates more separation between photos, reminders, and your phone’s built-in tools. For anyone invested in Galaxy hardware, Samsung offers the stronger ecosystem fit.

How normal they look on your face

Nobody wants to walk around wearing glasses that look like they came straight out of The Matrix. Both companies know that, so they teamed up with established eyewear brands to make AI glasses feel more natural.

Meta works with EssilorLuxottica, while Samsung co-designs its frames with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. Samsung also showed off a hidden hinge that blends into the frame and claimed its glasses are lighter than most competing AI glasses, though the South Korean company avoided sharing an exact weight. Leaks put them around 50 grams.

Meta has the bigger lineup right now, with 26 styles across three frame shapes. Some designs still push a bolder look, with the Fury frame feeling chunkier and the Kylie oval going for a more distinctive style.

I’d give Meta the edge for variety, but Samsung’s two designs look refined enough that I don’t think most people will miss having dozens of frame choices.

    The pervert problem nobody markets

The part neither company can solve with marketing is how people react to a camera sitting on someone’s face.

Meta has taken most of the backlash so far, and the criticism has been intense. Some people have even modified Ray-Ban Meta glasses to hide the recording indicator, while privacy concerns have pushed some workplaces to restrict their use. The controversy has grown enough that the “pervert glasses” label has stuck and started trending on Reddit.

Samsung will face the same problem the moment its glasses include a camera. I don’t think either pair can escape the suspicion around wearable cameras, with privacy-sensitive places creating the biggest challenge. The technology may improve, but winning public trust could prove harder than adding more AI features.

At $299, Meta Glasses are the most affordable option you should consider, with the widest selection of frames, colors, and prescription support. The prescription range covers -12 to +2.25, while adjustable nose pads help dial in the fit. If I’m recording hands-free clips of my kids or my dog, I’d rather rely on a 3K camera already in people’s hands than a promise shown on a presentation slide.

Meta also makes more sense for anyone who doesn’t want to stay inside one phone ecosystem. The glasses come with their own app instead of locking users into one smartphone brand, so iPhone owners get closer to the full experience than they would with Samsung’s approach. The separate account setup feels a little clunky, but it’s a small tradeoff. For a pair of AI glasses that fit more people, cost less, and work now, Meta’s eyewear is my recommendation.

    Where Samsung Galaxy Glasses win

Samsung Galaxy Glasses are the smarter pick for Android loyalists who already wear a Galaxy Watch or have their eye on the Galaxy Ring. The appeal is an assistant that can take action instead of only answering questions, so ordering a coffee, adding an event to a calendar, or saving a whiteboard to Samsung Notes happens through Gemini and Google’s app ecosystem in a way Meta has not matched yet. Using a Galaxy watch as a camera viewfinder also makes the whole setup feel like one connected system instead of a separate accessory.

They also make sense for frequent travelers who want live translation and navigation sent to one ear without pulling out a phone. The longer battery claim adds another reason to wait, especially for anyone who spends long days away from a charger. The catch is patience, since you won’t get them until fall and you’re still buying into a vision built around demos rather than real-world use.

    My final verdict

For most readers, someone buying a first pair of AI glasses without a deep hardware allegiance, Meta Glasses are my pick because they cost less and are available now. They offer more styles, wider fit options, and cover the core features people want, from hands-free capture to an AI assistant in your ear.

Samsung still has a strong case for Galaxy loyalists willing to wait. Galaxy Glasses paired with a Galaxy watch could outpace Meta with agentic features and deeper ecosystem integration. My advice for either buyer is the same. Don’t pay a premium for a camera you won’t use, then bring your glasses into spaces where people around you feel uneasy.
