Nike Hyperslides: I had questions, too—here’s why they’re trending
    Nike X Hyperice

When I first heard about the Nike Hyperslides, my reaction was, Really? Heated, vibrating slide slippers? It sounded like another shoe no one has asked for. But the more I thought about Nike’s latest collaboration with Hyperice, the more I understood why people are going crazy over them. Whether they’ll become a recovery mainstay is another question entirely.

So what is all the hype about?

Why are Nike Hyperslides suddenly everywhere?

Part of it is pedigree. Nike and Hyperice already have one hit together: the Hyperboot, an $899 heated compression boot that debuted with Olympians ahead of Paris 2024 and built a loyal following once it hit retail. When a $249 slide shows up from the same partnership, people pay attention.

Part of it is timing. Recovery tech has gone mainstream, and it’s not niche anymore. The sports recovery technology market is expected to nearly triple by 2033, and that growth is coming from regular people, not just pro athletes.

And part of it is just how odd the Hyperslides look. Social media loves a weird fitness gadget, and heated, vibrating slides are exactly what make people stop mid-scroll. Even if you never buy them, they are pretty fun to look at.

They’re more than just heated slippers

Officially called the Nike Air Zoom Hyperslide, the slide runs on a magnetic Hyperslide Pod. It adds heat and vibration to an Air Zoom sole. So you get three heat levels and three vibration settings, controlled either by the buttons on the pod or through the Hyperice app. Nike and Hyperice pitch it as a post-workout recovery step, something you strap on after training rather than during it.

They launch September 29 for $249 through Nike, Hyperice, Best Buy, and Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Hyperice says they qualify for FSA and HSA spending. That last detail is important. It puts a $249 recovery gadget in the same category as a heating pad or a knee brace.

    Here’s where I have questions

I get the appeal of compression boots. The Hyperboot has plenty of athlete testimonials to back it up, and dynamic air compression has a real place in physical therapy.

But do heat and vibration really do anything? Especially when the product it’s following came with actual compression? Will people actually build a habit around slipping these on after every workout. And the bigger question: are the Hyperslides solving a real recovery issue, or are they a new step that didn’t need to be there?

I don’t have firm answers, so I’m just raising my eyebrows at this one.

Why I think they’re trending anyway

Recovery has become part of fitness culture itself. Athletes and regular gymgoers spend hundreds of dollars on mitigating the effects of an intense training session. That’s why see so many massage guns, Normatec-style compression boots, and cold plunges. Nike knows this crowd, and it knows people love a premium wellness gadget that looks good in a mirror selfie.

The Hyperslides are also just easier to live with than a bulky compression boot. You can wear them, take them off, and move on with your day. Also, they’re just interesting, in the way any product that blends heat, vibration, and a sneaker silhouette tends to be.

I still don’t know if I’d buy the Nike Hyperslides, but I completely understand why someone would want a pair. In a world obsessed with optimizing recovery, why not add slides with built-in foot therapy?
